Festival 2027
From 12 to 15 August 2027, Musik an der Tonstrasse invites you for the sixth time to four concerts in Neuglobsow on Lake Stechlin and in Zernikow, about an hour north of Berlin. At the heart of the programme is Ludwig van Beethoven – in dialogue with music of his time and of later generations. The full programme and ticket information will follow.
The idea came during the pandemic, when travelling was difficult or impossible: why not bring music directly to people – close, personal, in the middle of everyday life? Since 2022, violinist Nora Chastain, professor at the Berlin University of the Arts, and Esteban Engel have invited friends – established and up-and-coming professional musicians – to their home in Marienthal on the Havel for a week of rehearsals each August. The concerts range from solo and duo to quintets and larger ensembles.
The name refers to the Deutsche Tonstraße, the “clay road” along what was once Europe’s largest brickmaking area, which supplied the bricks for Berlin’s 19th-century building boom. Our concert venues lie right along it: the village church and the manor of Zernikow, where the poet Achim von Arnim spent his childhood, and since 2025 the Stechlinsee Center in Neuglobsow.
2022 – The first festival in Zernikow: Schubert, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Dvořák and Berio.
2023 – From Bach and Vivaldi to Verdi and Brahms, plus a workshop for young musicians.
2024 – “Vienna and the New World”: Mozart, Schönberg, Kreisler, Puccini and Dvořák.
2025 – French esprit meets nature romance, and our first concerts at Lake Stechlin.
2026 – Five years! Music from Bohemia and Central Europe: Dvořák, Janáček, Suk, Klein, Korngold, Brahms and Beethoven.

By train and bus: From Berlin or Rostock, take the regional train RE5 to Gransee, then bus 836 to the stop “Zernikow Kirche”. At weekends the bus runs on demand and must be booked 90 minutes in advance – call us on +49 173 5801258 and we will gladly arrange it for you.
By car: Take the B96 to Gransee, then continue towards Rheinsberg via Großwoltersdorf to Zernikow.
